I can’t believe I haven’t written a blog since August and we’re now in October. Many apologies – so busy getting stock ready for Christmas and visiting trade fairs, as well as taking a four day little holiday in Venice, which was fantastic.
The summer shows, particularly Countryfile Live, were a great success for both poultrytalk and Peck&Feather; we enjoyed displaying the pure breeds of poultry in our marquee. The chicks as ever were an extremely popular attraction, and above is a picture of Jamie Toms handling the chicks with a crowd of enthusiastic children, and the turkeys who also attracted admiring public all weekend.
I am sponsoring the National Poultry Show Gala Dinner to be held at The International Centre, Telford on the weekend of 2nd/3rd December. The dinner is on the Saturday evening, and is exceptionally good value with a three course meal, coffee and lots of booze included in the ticket price. It gives exhibitors a chance to have a great social time and dress up a bit! Of course I will have a stand for the entire show, and will also be at the Federation Championship Show two weeks later at the County Showground, Stafford. If you are someone who has an interest in chickens, and maybe keeps a few rescue hens or cross breeds, I would really urge you to attend these shows. You will see approximately 6000 birds all under one roof, including chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, as well as huge egg shows. You can buy anything required for your flock and get advice on nutrition, housing, pest control and just about anything you can think of, and to top off your day you can do your Christmas shopping at my stand!
The chick stud earrings have been going down a storm when I am out and about, and the most recent stock purchase has been some great aprons. I think I am most excited about the new cuff links, which will be ready for the major shows. I am often being asked for something specifically for the men and it has taken me a long time to source something really special. Keep an eye on my website and facebook page in the next couple of weeks or so.
Many of you may know that Scots Dumpy chickens are my favourite breed, and 2018 sees 25 years since the formation of the Scots Dumpy Club. I have been Secretary of the Club for many of those years (in fact I tried to give it up twice and was re-instated), but now Mathew Roynan has taken over and his enthusiasm is giving the Club a real boost.
Peck and Feather continues to give me a real buzz, and I love it when people come back for another piece of jewellery. Some of you have nearly all the pieces of one species, and are now starting on ducks and geese to add to your chicken collection!
I am looking forward to seeing you at the many events leading up to Christmas, and I think when the great day does arrive I shall be snoring in a darkened room!
